FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

The Hot Air Ballooning Experience

Our goal is to give you the most incredible experience possible.  We’ve put together some useful information that helps prepare you for your flight day. We’re always happy to answer any questions you may have during normal business hours at (505) 604-9549.

Hot Air Balloons are FIRE!

Your balloon experience should take between 3 to 4 hours.  Please dress appropriate to the flight day weather conditions.  Anticipate your balloon journey to be warm, even in chilly conditions. As the burners on the balloon give off heat that is similar to being close to a blazing campfire – be ready by dressing in a few layers that you can adjust when appropriate.

NOTE:  You will be standing in a section of the basket; there are no seats or chairs.  Comfortable athletic shoes or boots are your best bets as the terrain we will land in may be sandy.

Sunrise Flights:  You will meet up with the pilot and crew pre-sunrise; please expect the parking lot to be dark.  Be situationally aware that there may be other riders and equipment being set up if you are already at a launch point.  Our Pilot and Crew arrives with a white van and a trailer – We will signal for you to join us while we set up.

Your safety and wellbeing are our TOP PRIORITIES.  Our Pilots perform a weather check while on site to ensure that the weather conditions are safe to fly.  If you have any safety-related questions, please consult the Pilot or crew.

If during the weather check conditions are deemed unsafe, your Pilot will make a decision to either wait several minutes for the weather to improve, or a full refund will be provided.

When cleared for take-off, you’ll see our crew begin setting up equipment and running additional safety checks.  Please be situationally aware of the equipment, ropes, and other people around you.

For your safety, please follow your Pilot and crews instructions.

– Please keep all body parts and clothing away from the fans.

Be mindful of the ropes the ground and do not let your feet leave the ground while holding onto a rope.

Following your Pilot’s Flight Safety Briefing the crew will begin to inflate the balloon envelope by opening the throat of the balloon and inflating it with two large fans that are placed by the sides of the basket.  During this time, you’ll have the opportunity to help the crew with certain parts of our setup or you can take photos and video.

As the balloon quickly fills with air, your Pilot will ignite and test the burners.  The burners are then used to complete inflation with hot air causing the balloon to slowly float to a vertical position, ready for flight.  Once the balloon is vertical, please be ready to join your Pilot and crew at the basket immediately as there is a small window of time to board and takeoff.

BOARDING NOTE: This is an important moment as the combined weight of all passengers keeps the balloon from flying away!

Please keep in mind that the basket has no gate or opening.  To board, passengers climb over the 4-foot wall of the basket (step stool or assistance provided, if necessary).

NOTE:  Once all passengers quickly enter the basket in the space designated by the Pilot, there is a 1-minute window before liftoff.

Our crew can use this time and opportunity to take a photo of you from outside of the basket (don’t worry, we hand back all devices before you take off).

SAFETY NOTEDO NOT EXIT the basket until your Pilot has verbally cleared you to do so, as body weight keeps the balloon anchored down.  Your Pilot will give you specific instructions on correct posture and position in the basket during your Flight Safety Briefing.

After the balloon and equipment are packed up, please enjoy your post-flight celebration with complimentary Mimosas or juice.
